Prom

We're back from weekend two of the three weekend streak of trips to Fairmont.  This past weekend was my little sister's senior prom(!),  and I had the privilege of doing her hair for the big day.  I absolutely loved her dress, and she looked stunning!
Getting ready.

Aimee and her date, Nick.

Isn't she pretty?

Bode came to Grand March, too.

Even though Maggie was feeling under the weather, she still enjoyed her time at Grammy and Bapa's and found lots of activities to keep her busy.

And finally, here are some picture's from last weekend's trip when we were down for Aimee's senior banquet at church.

So Big!

How big is Bode?

Ah, Spring

It has been a busy week with a sub job Friday, Monday, and Tuesday as well as a trip to Fairmont with both kids Saturday and Sunday to attend my sister's senior banquet at church. Lots of senior activities will get us down to my parents' a lot this spring and early summer! Today Maggie, Bode, and I were able to be at home and enjoy the beautiful day. One particular activity that I've been wanting to do with Maggie is smashing paint-filled egg shells in the driveway. I saw this idea on a blog, and Steve has been saving egg shells from his breakfast everyday for awhile. It was time to use them!
Picking out an egg.
Letting 'em fly!

Done with throwing.  On to smashing.
Checking the colors on the bottom of her shoe.
I had to wash her shoes after all the fun she had.
Bode was content to watch.

We have a tree in our front yard that has beautiful fragrant blossoms in the spring.  I have not yet identified it, but I love it.

Side note: Our bird feeder is nearby, and today I saw a cardinal foraging under the tree.  Finally!  I've been trying to get cardinals to come.

First Word

Bode spoke his first word today! ...In sign language, that is.  I've been working with him today on the sign for "doggy."  He loves to watch Asia, and one of Maggie's first signed and spoken words was "doggy," so I thought it would be a good start to his signing vocabulary.  The sign for dog is patting your leg, like you're calling a dog.  Granted, Bode moves his arms like this quite frequently, but I really think he gets the correlation! In unrelated Gibbs news, Bode is working on two more teeth in addition to the two he got a couple weeks ago, Maggie just started swimming lessons, and my left arm is getting noticeably more toned due to holding Bode with that arm while I complete other tasks with my right.

First Project

I am turning into a Martha Stewart wanna-be.  My mind is going crazy with all the little projects I would like to do around our house.  Thanks a lot, Pinterest.  Now if only I had unlimited time...

I did just complete my first sewing project since getting my machine.  I found a tutorial on Pinterest for making decorative storage boxes from diaper boxes (or wipes boxes, in this case).  These are great for organizing toys, etc.  I'm planning on eventually making some for other parts of the house, but these are for the play area in the living room.

Now onto the next thing.

Blast from the Past

Friday night, Steve and I went roller skating with a couple of friends.  I haven't gone skating since college and it was SO FUN.  Steve is a pro, having grown up going weekly to a rink owned by some family friends.  It took me awhile to get past the wobbly stage, but I started to get the hang of it towards the end.

We WILL be doing this again.

The Third Commandment

Our sermon this morning was about the Third Commandment and what exactly it means. Going in and out of the sanctuary with a baby caused me to miss some of it, but what I did hear was so good and convicting that I had to share.

"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain..."  Pastor Sawtelle pointed out that we often think this means that as long as we don't say, "Oh my ---" then we're okay.  This commandment applies to so much more, however.  We may break this command when we take vows, such as marriage vows or in court, and then break them.  This command could be broken when athletes publicly and flippantly thank God in word or deed.  It could also be broken when we're worshiping and singing words but being distracted or daydreaming rather than meditating on those words (I am often guilty of this!).  It could also occur when our conduct is irreverent.  In the new covenant, we are called to do all in the name of God, so that God's name is honored and glorified in our actions.

Pastor Sawtelle closed with two points:

1.  He asked us to seriously examine ourselves.  None are guiltless of this commandment, although we often think we are.  We need to flee to Christ and seek forgiveness.

2.  We need to pray fervently that God would conform us, so that He is glorified.  We need to hallow God's name.

This is a bare bones recap, but as I said earlier, I wanted to share it and also write it down so that I remember!
